Frequently Asked Questions

How does laser work?

The low level laser light that is emitted by the laser causes the fat contained in the fat cell to liquefy. The laser causes the fat cell membrane to become temporarily porous, allowing the liquefied fat to leave the cell and accumulate in the interstitial space around the cells. There is no damage to the cell membrane and after 48 hours the pores close up. Once the fat is in the interstitial space, the body via the lymphatic system naturally removes it.

How much can I expect to lose?

Everyone is different and so results will vary. The success of the treatments depends on your body’s ability to detoxify emulsified cellular debris. Therefore, not all patients will obtain the same outcome. In double-blind, randomized, multi-site, placebo-controlled clinical trials that tracked the circumferences of patient’s waist, hips, and thighs, the average total loss was 3.64 inches, up to a maximum of 9.5 inches, compared to a placebo group that only lost a half inch.

Who is a candidate for Zerona?

Since Zerona is non-invasive to the body, many individuals who are unable to undergo surgery may be candidates for Zerona. Often, Zerona is most effective when used in patients who are already leading healthy lives and are seeking fat-loss in particular problem areas, or in patients who would like Zerona to motivate their new commitment to a healthy diet and exercise by hastening their initial fat-loss efforts. It’s important to discuss your individual situation with our manager.

Who shouldn’t use Zerona?

Though the lasers are low level, they can nevertheless interact adversely with pacemakers. Women who have given birth should wait six weeks before using Zerona. Zerona is safe for individuals with diabetes and thyroid disorders, but the procedure may not be as effective.

Are there any risks?

There are no known risks associated with low-level laser therapy. This treatment causes no discomfort before, during or after the treatment.

Is the procedure painful?

Treatment is painless and requires no surgery, no anesthesia, no needles, no recovery, no healing, and no downtime.

What will the treatment be like?

Typically, you will undergo a 9, 12 or 18 session program. Each treatment is 40-minutes. Additionally, you will receive a consultation, support and other take home instructions for optimal results prior to commencing with the ZERONA LASER. Programs vary depending on the patient’s needs and goals. Often, a patient will be so thrilled with the results that they will want more sessions.

Will the program get rid of cellulite?

The Zerona Laser reduces contours due to excess fat, not cellulite. We employ a device called The Percussor, which distributes waves of percussive impulses deep into the tissues of the body. This assists in the eliminate of cellulite. In addition, you may wish to have a deep tissue massage to help breakdown the fibrous bands that are common to cellulite.

Can I just use the laser instead of dieting?

The procedure is not a program for losing weight or a cure for obesity. The Zerona laser is a fantastic way to get rid of inches in specific problem areas such as the stomach, thighs and buttocks. This is not the best way to lose weight generally, over the entire body. It is, however, a great way to ‘kick-start’ lifetime changes toward better health, including good nutrition and proper exercise.

Can the fat return?

This is a very common question and a there is a very simple answer. The Zerona laser itself does not obliterate or remove the fat cells from the body. When fat leaves the cells, the cells remain intact and collapse to their ‘unloaded’ size. This is that same thing that occurs when you are exercising (burning calories) and watching what you eat (controlling the calories you eat). If poor diet and lifestyle habits continue and greater calories are consumed than expended from exercise, the body will store the excess calories and the fat cells may begin to retain fat again. So the short answer is “yes”, fat can return if you are consuming more calories than you burn.

How many treatments can I do?

We offer different treatment packages depending on how much fat a client wants to lose. There have been no contraindications or side effects found from continued treatments. Additional treatments can be purchased at any point during therapy.

How much does the Global Laser Fat Loss program cost?

We have a number of programs available depending on your needs. The exact amount depends on the desired goals, so fees will vary. Based on the service performed for the double-blind, randomized, multi-site, placebo-controlled clinical trials that tracked the circumferences of patient’s hips, waist and thighs, (where the average total loss was 3.64 inches, up to a maximum of 11 inches on combined measurements) the cost for 18 sessions is $4000 and the cost for 9 sessions is $2200 (our most popular package). Financing options are available allowing for low monthly payments.

Why do some people lose more inches than others?

The physiological ability to process fat has genetic variability from person to person. Variations include function of the lymph and digestive systems, as well as possible metabolic abnormalities.

When can I expect to see results?

Typical results in decrease of body circumference may be seen after two thirds of the treatment package is complete. Measurements are taken both on the first day you come in for your appointment, and one week after your final laser appointment.

Why do you take my measurements?

In order to accurately gauge your loss of body circumference in inches, it’s important to take accurate measurements. These are taken at specific anatomical sites before the first treatment, and one week after your final laser treatment. Sometimes, people extend their treatment program by purchasing additional sessions, and if so, another measurement will be taken when these finish.

Do the treatments increase toxins in my system?

During a large study, liver panels were taken both before and after the procedure. No changes were shown. Among its 500 or so functions, the liver is one of the body’s major detoxification pathways and any increase in toxin would show as an increase in liver activity.

Are there any other changes from the treatment besides loss of fat?

During a large study, it was shown that Cholesterol and triglyceride levels were normalized. This means that people who were 10 points high tended to drop 10 points, and people who were 100 points high tended to drop 100 points. Also noted are skin improving changes. The laser has been FDA approved for wound healing.

Is this covered by insurance?

This procedure is cosmetic and therefore is considered “not medically necessary”. Consequently, it is not covered by insurance companies.

What is the difference between subcutaneous fat and visceral fat?

Subcutaneous fat (pinchable fat) is located directly above the skeletal muscle and below the skin. Its superficial placement is what ensures proper depth penetration of the laser energy. Patients containing a high volume of visceral fat (fat below the skeletal muscle) are not ideal candidates for this procedure. However, these patients may still have subcutaneous fat; therefore, in addition to laser therapy, these patients can address their visceral fat by ensuring they adopt a healthy diet.

Why Choose Zerona ?

ZERONA is a non-invasive device cleared by Health Canada and the FDA for full body contouring and fat loss that:

  • Is proven in multiple double blind trials
  • Achieves clinically significant results in just two weeks
  • Reduces fat and inches without killing the fat cells or other cells

How Does Zerona work?

Developed by Erchonia Corporation, the world leader in laser healthcare, Zerona is applied externally, utilizing the patented and clinically proven Erchonia Laser Scanner. This patented method is what makes Zerona not only revolutionary, but the only proven, non-invasive body slipping procedure to effectively and painlessly remove excess fat.

Zerona works by using a low-level laser that operates at a wavelength at 635 nm and emits no heat. Simply put, the laser works by stimulating adipocyte cells and emulsipying the fat within the cell. Once stimulated, a transitory pore is formed and the emulsified trigycerides and fatty acids are released into the interstitial space and passed through the body during it’s normal course of detoxification.

Zerona not only removes fat and inches from the target area, this remarkable device has been proven to have a cascading (systemic) affect impacting adjacent cells. With Zerona you can expect to lose inches not only in the targeted areas of your waist, hips and thighs but in other areas where fat exists, such as the arms, face and neck.
